Preoperative Consultation

The preoperative consultation appointment allows you to meet and become familiar with Doctor Wilson, our staff, and facility.  Goals of the consultation are decreased anxiety, more complete understanding of any proposed treatment and treatment options, and an overall smoother surgical experience.  The consultation provides time for thorough review of your health history, examination, digital radiographs (x-rays) if needed, and review of the risks and benefits of upcoming surgical procedures or other treatments.  During the consultation visit, the patient will complete the appropriate surgical consent forms and discuss any procedure related questions or other concerns with Doctor Wilson.  We will also take this opportunity to review any financial or insurance questions.

IMPORTANT: All patients under the age of 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian for the consultation appointment and for the surgery appointment.

Please alert the office prior to surgery if you have any medical conditions (i.e., diabetes, high blood pressure, artificial heart valves, artificial joints, history of rheumatic fever, etc.) or if you are currently taking any medications (i.e., heart medications, aspirin, anticoagulant therapy, etc.).

Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your consultation appointment:

  • Your surgical referral slip and, if applicable, any prior radiographs (x-rays).
  • A list of medications you are currently taking.
  • Medical and/or dental insurance, if any.  (Please bring any pertinent insurance cards or forms with you to your appointment.  This will save time and allow us to submit your claims in a timely manner.)

Radiographs (X-Rays)

If your dentist or physician has taken x-rays, you may request that they forward them to our office. If there is not enough time, please pick them up and bring them to our office. If additional films or more detailed x-rays are necessary, they will be taken at our office and we will gladly forward a copy to your referring doctor.
