You must not have anything to eat or drink (including water) for eight (8) hours prior to the surgical appointment.
All patients under the age of 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
A responsible adult must accompany the patient to the office, remain in the office during the procedure, and drive the patient home.
It is recommended that you do not smoke for at least 12 hours before surgery. Ideally, cut down or stop smoking as soon as possible prior to the day of surgery.
The patient should not drive a vehicle or operate any machinery for 24 hours following the anesthesia experience.
Please wear loose fitting clothing, shirt with short sleeves, and low-heeled shoes.
Contact lenses, jewelry, and dentures must be removed prior to the time of surgery.
Do not wear lipstick, makeup, or nail polish on the day of surgery.
If you have an illness such as a cold, sore throat, stomach or bowel upset, please notify the office.
If you take routine oral medications, please notify Doctor Wilson prior to your surgical date for instructions.
In general, you should take your routine oral medications with a very small sip of water the morning before your surgery.
PREOPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE IV SEDATION
The night before surgery eat a light meal, consume no alcoholic beverages, and retire early. It is recommended you do not smoke for at least 12 hours before surgery. Ideally, cut down or stop smoking as soon as possible prior to the day of surgery.
DO NOT EAT OR DRINK ANYTHING AFTER MIDNIGHT THE NIGHT BEFORE SURGERY! NO FOOD, NO LIQUID, NOT EVEN WATER, AFTER MIDNIGHT. NO SMOKING AFTER MIDNIGHT.

Take your regularly scheduled medications with only a very small sip of water.
Brush your teeth prior to surgery and rinse with your usual mouthwash. Do not swallow any water.
Please call our office immediately if you have any symptoms of a head or chest cold. Your surgery may have to be rescheduled.
BRING SOMEONE WITH A CAR TO DRIVE YOU HOME AFTER SURGERY! If someone does not accompany you, your surgery will be rescheduled. Also, someone should stay with you for several hours after surgery. We will not allow you to ride home unattended in a taxi.
Please leave all valuable items at home, including ear rings, rings, necklaces, and watches. The office is not responsible for loss or theft.
The patient should not drive a vehicle or operate any machinery for 24 hours following sedation/anesthesia.
To allow for monitoring of blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygen during surgery, please trim both right and left index fingernails to the end of fingers and remove artificial nails and fingernail polish. Also, please wear loose fitting clothing, shirt with short sleeves, and low-heeled shoes.
If you wear contacts, please remove them at home or, if need be, bring your case and solution with you.
Surgery that must be cancelled or rescheduled should be done at least 24 hours prior to your appointment time.
If you are having surgery without intravenous sedation (local anesthesia only), please follow all instructions except for numbers 2 and 6 above.
