Anesthesia & Sedation
At Glacier Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, we utilize anesthetic techniques tailored to each patient's needs to provide a smooth treatment experience with quick recovery times. Dr. Noblitt has received advanced training in the administration of anesthesia, specifically tailored for both healthy and medically complex patients. Each individual on our team has either achieved certification or is currently eligible to obtain certification through the Dental Anesthesia Assistant National Certification Examination (DAANCE). All staff members have successfully completed Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification, ensuring the highest level of care and emergency preparedness.
Our anesthesia & sedation options:
Local anesthetic
Local anesthesia, often called “Novocain”, is a method used to numb a specific area of the mouth during oral surgery procedures. It temporarily blocks nerve signals, ensuring patients experience little to no pain while remaining fully conscious and comfortable.
Nitrous oxide (laughing gas)
Nitrous oxide, commonly known as “laughing gas”, is a sedative used in oral and maxillofacial surgery to help patients relax during procedures. It works quickly to reduce anxiety and discomfort while allowing the patient to remain awake and responsive. Nitrous oxide wears off rapidly, enabling a swift recovery without lingering side effects, making it an ideal choice for managing dental anxiety and enhancing patient comfort.
Oral sedation
Oral sedation is a simple and effective method used to help patients relax during dental procedures. It involves taking a prescribed medication by mouth before the appointment, which promotes calmness and reduces anxiety. This type of sedation allows patients to remain conscious while feeling comfortable, often resulting in a more positive treatment experience. Oral sedation is ideal for those with mild to moderate dental fears, a low pain threshold, or a need for longer or more complex procedures.
IV sedation (intravenous sedation, conscious sedation, twilight sedation)
IV sedation is a safe and effective method used to help patients relax during dental and surgical procedures. Administered directly into the bloodstream, IV sedation works quickly to reduce anxiety and discomfort while maintaining patient responsiveness. This approach allows for a more comfortable experience, especially for those undergoing complex treatments or with dental fears. Our skilled team closely monitors patients throughout the procedure to ensure safety and optimal sedation levels.
General anesthesia (deep sedation)
General anesthesia is used to ensure complete comfort and unconsciousness during more complex oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures. At Glacier Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, we collaborate with a highly qualified, board-certified anesthesiologist to administer and monitor anesthesia throughout the procedure. This partnership guarantees the highest standards of safety and care, allowing patients to undergo treatment with confidence and peace of mind.
